Ooh La La!  A Night in Paris!

Bonjour dancers.  Join us on Saturday, May 18th for our last social dance of the season!  Bring your joie de vivre and dance the night away as we celebrate “The City of Lights” in style.

We’ll start the evening off with a bit of attitude with a “Tempting Tango” workshop provided by our own VBDS instructor, Victor Golubkov.

There’ll be tasty treats reminiscent of patisseries lining the streets of Paris, a fun Paris themed photo booth and a nostalgic French tune or two worked into the playlist of ballroom music.

When:  Saturday, May 18thh – workshop @ 6:00 p.m. / general dancing 6:45–8:45 p.m.

Where:  Cedar Hill Rec Centre – enter from the lobby only – the side doors will remain closed.

Ticket Information:  Secure your spot now and join us for our last dance of the season!  Tickets are available online (sign in then scroll down) and at the door.  VBDS members $10 per person, and non-members $12 per person.

Classes & workshops – May & June 2024

Newcomer Level Competition Preparation Workshops – Latin and Standard

In the before times, each year a few novice dancers would take the plunge and try competing. For some it was a one-and-done, for others it was the start of a new passion. For all of them, competing was something totally not on their radar when they first started dancing. Covid and the long climb out seemed to squelch that annual migration of a few dancers to the competition realm. Victor and your dance committee want to change that. Our idea is to host a series of workshops to teach you routines (Cha Cha and Waltz) and teach you everything you need to know about competing: marshalling, entrance, set-up, dancing of course, what to do if you get bumped, presenting your partner at the end of the dance and how to exit the floor. The Island Fantasy Ball competition runs on June 1st and 2nd and they make it super easy for Newcomers – one Latin dance: Cha Cha and one standard dance: Waltz. Our goal is to create a team and use that camaraderie to support and encourage each other as we dip our toes into what appears dark and cold but is actually quite warm and inviting. More info on the workshops can be found here.

Night Club Waltz workshop series Part 1

Due to the overwhelming response to the first series, John de Pfyffer has agreed to teach a Part 2 to the Night Club Waltz dance. These are tentatively scheduled to run from noon to 1:00 pm, Saturdays May 11th, 18th and 25th at Cedar Hill Rec Centre. More info will be posted near the end of the month.

Workshop with Gaétan Rouette

We are hoping to run a final workshop series with Gaétan Rouette before the summer break. These are tentatively scheduled to run Sunday mornings from 10:30 to noon at Les Passmore on June 9th 16th and 23rd. More info will be posted shortly.
