Waltz Swing and Sway Workshops

Gaétan Rouette is returning to teach more high-level workshops. These will follow the same format as last year – three, 90-minutes sessions on Sunday mornings from 10:30-noon with doors open at 10:00 so you can warm up.

What: Waltz Swing and Sway Workshops

When: Sundays, 10:30 – noon, September 15th, 29th and October 13th

Where: Les Passmore / Saanich Silver Threads

Price: $90 for VBDS members, $115 for non-members

This workshop will cover the technical information and exercises required to achieved better Swing and Sways throughout basics and more advanced figures of the Waltz.

• Pendulum vs Metronomic Swing. Learn how to create fluidity in the movement of the Waltz using pendulum and metronomic swing.
• Different Types of Sways. Learn the difference between the Technical Sway, the Broken Sway and the Cosmetic Sway and how and when to apply them through explanation, demonstration and exercises.
• Head weight during Swing. Learn and improve the uses of the head weight while producing the Swing and Sways actions.

Please note, you DO NOT need a partner to register for classes or workshops. As needed, we will attempt to balance classes with volunteers. As well, while not required, students will be encouraged to change partners as this is very beneficial to learning.

Registration will close one-week before the start of classes and if there are inadequate numbers, the class will be cancelled.
