✨ Curious what ballroom competition preparation actually looks and feels like?
This special 3-week workshop series is designed to give dancers an approachable introduction to the world of ballroom competition preparation — whether you are actively competing at Sunday Funday in Vancouver on June 14, thinking about competing someday, or simply looking to challenge yourself with a different style of ballroom training.
“Come and kick off the summer season! In true VCC style, there will be serious competition, fun events and plenty of general dancing in the evenings. Sunday Funday will be fun for all dancers and spectators alike!”
Following the success of the first workshop series and the very positive feedback from dancers, we are excited to continue the competition preparation journey together. Over three weeks, dancers will work on competition-style Tango and Rumba routines while exploring presentation, partnering, floorcraft, musicality, and the overall structure of preparing for a ballroom competition.
The workshop remains open both to dancers currently planning to compete and to dancers who simply want to experience what a low-key competition preparation environment looks like without any expectation or pressure to compete.

⏰ Competition registration deadline has passed
The official registration deadline for Sunday Funday was May 14. However, we strongly encourage dancers to still participate in the workshop series even if they are not planning to compete, as the classes are intended to provide a fun, supportive, and accessible introduction to competition-style ballroom preparation.
For dancers who are still interested in competing, late registrations may still be possible depending on organizer availability. Please reach out as soon as possible if you would like to explore potential late-entry options.
Registration support
Participants who plan to compete will need an active NDCC membership and will need to provide us with their NDCC number. Once we have your number, we can help take care of the Sunday Funday competition registration details via email, or communication in group classes and the last session of the current workshop.

Expected competition entries
We recommend participants to enter Beginner Latin, and Beginner and Pre-Bronze Standard events in all appropriate age groups.
Latin: Cha Cha and Rumba
Standard: Tango, Waltz, and Quickstep
🌈 Same-gender and gender-diverse couples are welcome at Sunday Funday.
Refreshments
Since the venue is a synagogue, the organizers will be providing kosher drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Dancers planning to bring additional food into the venue are asked to ensure that it is certified kosher.
Travel and estimated costs
Our goal is to attend Sunday Funday as a one-day trip — travelling to Vancouver and returning the same day. We encourage car sharing where possible to help reduce transportation costs and keep the competition accessible for everyone.
- Estimated transportation by car: approximately $125–$200 per person when travelling with one or two couples per vehicle
- NDCC membership: $50
- Competition ticket: $50
- Dance entry fees: $25 per couple for a two-dance event and $30 per couple for a three-dance event
- Additional single dances: optional single dances may be added for approximately $15 per dance per couple
Please note that Vancouver will be hosting FIFA World Cup events around the same time, which may significantly increase hotel costs. Our goal is therefore to encourage shared transportation and attend as a same-day group trip where possible.
VBDS may assist dancers in connecting with others interested in ride sharing or coordinated travel arrangements; however, all transportation arrangements are made independently between participants. Drivers, passengers, vehicles, schedules, insurance coverage, licensing, ferry bookings, and all related travel decisions remain the sole responsibility of the individuals involved.
By participating in any shared transportation arrangement, participants acknowledge that VBDS does not organize, supervise, operate, inspect, or assume responsibility or liability for transportation services, vehicle safety, driver conduct, scheduling, cancellations, accidents, injuries, losses, damages, delays, or other incidents that may occur before, during, or after travel to or from the event.
